ATPIJ
ATPIJ, the Association of Thai Professionals in Japan ,
is a group of Thai "knowledge workers" and graduate students in Japan.
It was originally organized in 1991 as a club of Thai engineers and
scientists who were working in Japan after their graduation. The
founding of ATPIJ was initially inspired by the Ministry of Science,
Technology and Environment of Thailand.
ATPIJ is comparable to ATPAC (The Association of Thai Professionals in
America and Canada), or ATPER (The Association of Thai Professionals in
Europe). However, in reality, ATPIJ can be better described as something
like a mixture of ATPAC and ATSIST (The Association of Thai Students in
Science and Technology Professions) in that ATPIJ membership covers both
professionals and students.
Though originated as a club of engineers and scientists, ATPIJ has become
more "multi-disciplinary" now. In other words, its scope of interests has
extended beyond natural science and technology to include social sciences
and humanities. In fact, some key objectives of ATPIJ is to bridge the gap
between people from different academic backgrounds, and to create a
scientific society which is more in touch with all people.
What is ATPIJ doing?
ATPIJ attempts to be a forum that encourages new generations to develop
their potentials and to share their knowledge through various activities.
Such activities include organizing seminars and academic conferences (6
times during the past 3 years), conducting policy research (currently,
ATPIJ is working on the possibilities of building an information highway in
Thailand), and issuing a monthly magazine "SAKKAYAPHAB".
What is SAKKAYAPHAB?
SAKKAYAPHAB (pronounced Sak-ka-ya-paab and literally means 'Potential') is
ATPIJ's monthly magazine. It is published in the THAI language and
distributed to ATPIJ's members in Japan, Thailand, and the rest of the
world. So far, we have published more than 12 issues of the magazine in
hard copy form. Now, ATPIJ is ready to extend the publication to
electronic form as well.
SAKKAYAPHAB is unique in a number of ways:
- It is academic oriented.
Although SAKKAYAPHAB is intended to promote an academic atmosphere among
Thai people in Japan, the magazine itself is written in semi-academic style
for general readers. As a result, SAKKAYAPHAB is more of a magazine than an
academic journal.
- It is multi-disciplinary.
The readers and the authors of the magazine consist of people from many
different academic backgrounds. Some are engineers, scientists, or
researchers. Others are economists, market researchers, linguists, or
students. With contributions from a wide range of people in the same issue
of SAKKAYAPHAB, the magazine is an ideal place to consider a broad range of
issues transcending any single field.
- It is a "Japan Watcher".
Another feature of SAKKAYAPHAB that makes it unique is that it focuses on
movements and trends of the situations in Japan. With plenty of insider's
information, we believe that SAKKAYAPHAB reports on Japan are some of the
most comprehensive among those available in Thai language.
- It is future oriented.
The readers of SAKKAYAPHAB are mainly those among their twenties or
thirties, a generation that will play a substantial role in Thailand in the
next 20 years. With this in mind, SAKKAYAPHAB aims at stimulating the
active minds of the readers with unique future-oriented articles.
What is SAKKAYAPHAB really like?
Since the best way to know a Japanese Sa-ke is to taste it, the best way to
get to know SAKKAYAPHAB is to subscribe it. The followings are titles of
some articles published in past issues of SAKKAYAPHAB.
